THE IDEA BEHIND WOVIO

In 1968, the idea sounded “outlandish.”

Black and white portrait of linguist Robbins Burling

Robbins Burling

Linguist and early proposer of the idea behind progressive language weaving.

Linguist Robbins Burling proposed a different way to approach language learning: start with language a learner already understands, then gradually introduce the new language.

Decades later, research explored this idea through what became known as the diglot approach. Wovio brings that principle into a modern, adaptive reading experience.

Stories you want to read. New words woven in naturally. Instant meaning and pronunciation.
